Styles and Where They Fit
Formal Portrait
Suit, controlled light, plain background. The most useful of the set, because it works as a profile picture anywhere. If it is specifically for work, the professional headshots are built for that and go further.
Streetwear
Urban backdrop, daylight, casual clothing. Reads as candid, which means it needs a relaxed face in the original. A stiff, posed expression fights the style rather than sitting in it.
Gym and Fitness
Hard directional light and a gym setting. It emphasises shape rather than inventing it, so what you bring to the photo is what comes out. The gym styles go further in this direction.
Bike and Cinematic
Motorcycles, night streets, film-style colour. The most dramatic of the set and the least suitable for anything official, which is precisely why people like it for social use.
Getting a Good Result
Fill the frame with your face. A photo taken at arm's length in a large room gives the model very little to preserve, and the result stops resembling you before any style is applied.
Shoot near a window rather than under a ceiling light. Overhead light drops shadows into the eyes and under the nose, and a rebuilt scene inherits those shadows in the wrong places.
Skip the beauty filter. It has already removed the skin texture the model uses to keep a face recognisable, and no style can put it back.
