Light Is Everything Here
Fitness photography works by putting light across the body rather than straight at it. Overhead gym lighting does the opposite: it flattens everything and drops shadows into the eyes.
That is why the same person looks completely different in a mirror selfie and in a shoot. The change is not the body, it is where the light comes from, and that is the part these styles rebuild.

What Each Look Does
Hard Side Light
A single strong source from one side. It defines shape more than any other option, which is the whole point, and it is unforgiving about a blurred original.
Gym Floor
Equipment, depth and a real setting behind you. It reads as a photograph taken during a session rather than a portrait, which suits progress posts.
Studio
Plain background, controlled light, nothing to distract. The most flattering and the least specific, so it works long after the session it came from.
Outdoor Training
Daylight, open space, running or calisthenics framing. Needs a photo with room around you; a tight mirror crop has nowhere to put the outdoors.
Getting a Usable Result
Hold the phone still. Gym lighting is dim, phones compensate with a slow shutter, and the resulting motion blur is the single most common reason a result looks soft no matter which style you pick.
Get the phone out of the shot where you can. A mirror selfie works, but a photo taken by someone else gives the model a clean body outline to relight instead of one interrupted by an arm and a device.
Do not expect a body change. These styles light what is there, they do not reshape it. That is deliberate, and it is what keeps the photo honest.
